REFRESH YOUR MEDICAL SKILLS
The SOLO WFR Recertification recertifies current WFRs for another 3 years, updates students on changes in protocols and ensures competency of WFR level skills. Students will review essential skills, wilderness protocols, and updates in wilderness medicine.
The American Red Cross (ARC) CPR/AED certificate is offered the first night of the course for an additional cost (good for 2 years).
LEARNING OUTCOMES
The course will review the major curricular areas and skills taught in a Wilderness First Responder course. Examples include, but are not limited to:
The general principles of wilderness and rescue medicine with an emphasis on identifying medical emergencies, critical thinking, and risk management
Patient assessment and emergency care including CPR and AED use, basic life support skills, the patient assessment system, patient reporting, and calling for help
Treatment of injuries from traumatic mechanisms and the treatment of musculoskeletal problems such as overuse syndromes and dislocations
Environmental medicine including illness and injuries related to altitude, temperature, lightning, submersion, and environmental toxins
Backcountry medicine including the assessment and treatment of common medical problems
Non-technical lifting, moving, and extrication of patients with an emphasis on spinal motion restriction when applicable
Practical Skills including bleeding control, wound management, bandaging, splinting, spine stable patient packaging, hypothermia management, medical kit preparation
Extended care protocols, including treatment of anaphylaxis and wound management, in a remote setting, spine injury assessment, reduction of simple dislocations, and treatment for severe asthma

Includes SOLO WFR Certificate Pending Successful Completion (Good for 3 years)
Additional $75 Per Person for ARC CPR/AED Certification Add On (Good for 2 years)
CPR is required to maintain your WFR certification
Prerequisites . . .
18 years of age or 16 accompanied by a parent in the course
Current (not expired) Wilderness First Responder Certification (WFR Certification is valid for three years)
Current Wilderness First Responder Certification from SOLO or a reciprocity organization: Desert Mountain Medicine (DMM) Wilderness Medical Institute (WMI/NOLS), Wilderness Medical Associates (WMA), AERIE, Wilderness Medicine Outfitters, Remote Medicine must be submitted to instructor before start date
Students are advised to re-take a [WFR Certification][1] course after three recertifications

100% attendance is mandatory
Evaluation is based on practical patient simulations, hands-on activities, and a written test
Certifications are valid for three years. Graduates of this course may recertify by retaking a Wilderness First Responder Recertification course
